Thanksgiving Dinner

Hello Reader,

At 481 pages, the new blood pressure guidelines formulated by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology are being discussed a lot — but read infrequently. Many news reports are simply rehashing the old Puritanical admonition, "avoid everything pleasurable." Since that's not what the research recommends, it's important to know what's both real and new in the guidelines — for your health and your happiness.

Low Blood Pressure Is a Bigger Problem in Fibromyalgia

Although our lead article talks about high blood pressure, and is something that I sent out to the news media as general information for the public on an important health topic, for those with CFS and fibromyalgia, low blood pressure is a bigger problem.

This tends to be associated with blood rushing to your legs and staying there when you are upright. It's called orthostatic intolerance, NMH, POTS, and the number of other names. It's especially important in the most severe disabling cases of fibromyalgia/CFS/ME.

Fortunately, it can be easily diagnosed and is much more amenable to treatment than it used to be. For an overview on this topic with loads of helpful information, and a quick one minute quiz that will tell you if you have orthostatic intolerance, see "Autonomic Dysfunction in CFS and Fibromyalgia."
