Young People at Low Risk of Severe Illness and Death from COVID-19

Children in Field

New studies show that the risk of death from COVID-19 in the whole population of those under 18 years old is 1 in 481,000. And of those who died, 91% had other severe health conditions or obesity. The implication of this is that healthy children have only a 1 in 4 million chance of dying from COVID. Professor Russell Viner, senior author of two of the studies, concluded, "We found that the risks of severe illness or death in children in young people from SARS-CoV-2 are extremely low."

By Contrast, only 1 in 2,500 COVID deaths in the U.S. were in children 17 or younger. Therefore, children are about 13 times more likely to die from car related deaths than from COVID.

Fun Stuff

A child asked his father, "How were people born?" So his father said, "Adam and Eve made babies. Then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on."

The child then went to his mother and asked her the same question. So she said, "We were monkeys. Then we evolved to become like we are now."

The child ran back to his father and said, "You lied to me!" His father replied, "No, your mom was talking about her side of the family."
