Can I take thyroid meds in conjunction with iodine?

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and am taking 88 mcg levothyroxine and just started simvastatin 20mg. I take additional meds for HBP . I would like to handle my thyroid meds holistically but quite expensive. I just found this site and am very hopeful you can help. I just don't want to make my thyroid situation worse by mixing my meds and some of the suggestions offered here. Please guide me. Working on the weight loss too. I would love to end all pharmas from physicians and go natural.

Answer

For those on statins (which I personally do not recommend unless there is also diabetes and known heart disease--especially in those with fibro or muscle pain) , it is important to also take CoEnzyme Q10 at 200-400 mg a day as the statins cause CoQ10 deficiency. I usually do not need to lower thyroid dose when adding iodine. If the thyroid is not helping enough, I consider switching people from Synthoid to Armour Thyroid.
