3 Simple Tips for Antiaging
It sometimes seems that the body was built with planned obsolescence in mind. Fortunately, there are many ways to bypass this "feature."
To do so requires understanding the key drivers of unhealthy aging. Whether one is having heart disease, poor cognition, or even wrinkles, the factors below are major contributors. And can be addressed without great difficulty:
Tip 1. Tame Excess Inflammation
Inflammation is not unhealthy in and of itself — unless it is out of balance and on overdrive. Which is the normal situation given the western diet. Excess inflammation is driven by diets high in sugar, white flour, and grain fed beef; and low in omega-3's such as fish oil. I suspect that the high stress caused by what seems to be today's media mantra "fear and divisiveness sells" is also contributing.
So just turn off the TV and internet news when it starts to irritate you.
In addition, cut back on sugar. Switch to whole grains and grass fed meat and fish. Personally, I also take a tablet of CuraMed® 750 each day. Curcumin, its active ingredient, is one of the most powerful natural anti-inflammatories, with numerous health benefits including with numerous health benefits including immune balancing and optimization . It would take over 100 tablets of turmeric and seven of curcumin to get what is in this single tablet. Which is why I use this form.
Tip 2. Fix Hormonal Deficiencies
Aging and autoimmune disease lead to hormonal deficiencies. Unfortunately, blood testing misses the vast majority of people who need bioidentical hormone support. So, how do you tell if you need it?
- Thyroid. If you’re tired, achy, have unexplained weight gain, cold intolerance, have irregular menses under age 40, or unexplained infertility, then you should consider the possibility of low thyroid. Even if just two of these symptoms are present. Blood testing misses most people who benefit from thyroid hormone. Meanwhile, thyroid hormone deficiency increases aging via atherosclerosis, dementia, and numerous other mechanisms.
- Perimenopause. Blood tests will stay normal and women will continue to have their menses until they have been estrogen and progesterone deficient for 5 to 12 years. How to tell? If symptoms of fatigue, headache, brain fog, or insomnia become worse around their menses.
- Testosterone deficiency. This increases the risk of diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and atherosclerosis. I consider bioidentical hormone replacement in men if their blood level is under 500 ng/dl.
- Adrenal fatigue. Suspect this is present if you get irritable when hungry, also known as “hangry.” A simple adrenal supplement called Adrenaplex® can take care of this.
Tip 3. Take Antioxidants to Counter Damage From Free Radicals
One of the largest extinctions on the planet occurred when algae started putting oxygen into the air. Oxygen "rusts" tissues. This is quite deadly unless one has evolved the ability to create antioxidants.
The two key human antioxidants are:
- SOD (super oxide dismutase), which you have plenty of as long as you take a daily good multivitamin that has zinc and a tiny bit of copper; and
- Glutathione, which is more problematic. Especially as acetaminophen dramatically depletes this antioxidant.
Basically, you should take a good multivitamin high in antioxidants. A great one is the Fatigued to Fantastic™ Energy Revitalization Drink Mix, which is what I take myself. Use natural remedies instead of Tylenol. Ibuprofen is even more dangerous, with that family of medications killing over 50,000 Americans yearly (happy to supply the research studies and calculations for that stunning number if you would like).
These simple measures can help you die very young, but very late in life…
