Could I have Epstein-Barr?
Hi, Dr. T.
My blood test result is: EBV IGM - NEGATIVE, IGG- 650. Is it possible that I suffer from chronic EBV?
Answer
Over 90 percent of the healthy adult population will show positive IgG antibodies for Epstein-Barr virus, so this test neither shows that you have it, but also does not rule out chronic EBV virus reactivation in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Basically, I consider this test to be fairly meaningless.
