Is it dangerous to take sinusitis nose spray after its expiration date?
I bought the sinusitis spray a few months ago. I only used it for about a week with NIzoral and found it very dehydrating (I think that was more the Nizoral). A doc I saw at the time told me if the spray didn't work after a week, it probably wouldn't work, and if it did, I would probably have to take it for life. Anyway, I decided to give it another shot, but realized it expired in just a few months. Is it dangerous to take it a couple months after expiration or is it just not as effective? If it is less effective, could it make an infection worse? If I were to buy another bottle, how long does it take to see results? Do I have to take it with an antifungal like Nizoral or Diflucan (both are dehydrating for me)? Thanks.
Answer
Not dangerous, just a bit less effective (For up to 3-6 months after, likely OK though.) I prefer people take it with the oral Diflucan 200 mg a day for 6 weeks, and many if not most people do NOT need it long term once the candida is cleared. Give the mix of pill, nasal spray and nasal saline rinses 6 -12 weeks to see full effect. L&B, Dr. T
