The Importance of Treating Pains’ Root Causes

Adding to the hundreds of studies showing how to treat chronic pain effectively, two new studies show the importance of treating pain’s root causes.
In one new study, 50 people received treatment for chronic low back pain. Half received the standard anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID) meloxicam alone. The other half received that plus supplements that included B vitamins, glucosamine acetyl l-carnitine, and the anti-inflammatory herbal Boswellia (frankincense). Of the two groups, those who also took supplements faired better, reporting 39% higher satisfaction and quicker improvement — a significantly better outcome than the group that only received Meloxicam.
In another study, 75 people with chronic low back pain had their vitamin D levels checked. None of them showed optimal levels, with all of them being either overtly or moderately insufficient. Lower serum vitamin D levels were significantly associated with increased pain severity and higher disability scores.
These are just two of the hundreds of recent studies supporting the importance of treating four key areas of pain to find optimal chronic pain relief, namely:
- Muscle pain from low tissue energy levels
- Inflammation
- Nerve pain and
- “Brain pain” (microglial activation and central sensitization)
Once pain becomes chronic, the initial causes of the pain tend to cascade, causing all four of these pain triggers.
Sadly, except for treating with NSAID medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, and a few seizure or antidepressant medications for neuropathy, most physicians have virtually no training in effective pain management. This lack of effective physician education, rather than lack of effective treatments, is why 24% of people, many needlessly, suffer chronic pain.
There is good news though. All four of the above can be simply addressed by people on their own. With readily available treatments that are safe, effective, affordable, and accessible, my new book PAIN RELIEF in 4 Simple Steps can show you how.
